To me, is just only a confession of failure, nothing else. I´m about replacing the pitch wheel pot and spring for the 2nd time wíthin 3 1/2 years now,- and for me that´s absolutely over the top. When there will be no improvements in components used and eventually also a better scanner behaviour,- any Kurzweil keyboard will be a no-go for me in future. The overall build quality today and compared to the past is, in general, ALL crap ! It works ´til day ONE w/ some minor effort of service ! Regardless how good the new gear sounds, I prefer my old rig from the 80s/90s. Today, we get the same s#t in Kurzweil instruments we get in any other asian manufactured pieces of electronic junk.Īnd the OS of the PC3 is also still buggy since it was released. That´s a legend from then past when there was the K2000. Today´s Kurzweil instruments are NOT built like a tank. The Kurzweil PC3 is the only keyboard I ever had to do this and it is for sure a matter of quality of components used. In no way I ever had to defeat any pitch- (or mod-) wheel in any synth, workstation or keyboard I ever owned. It is also not common practice defeating pitch wheels in any synths out there. In fact, it´s absolutely NOT a quick fix when you have to deactivate a pitch wheel. This will get rid of the unwanted pitchbend or modulation until you can get the board serviced. This setup governs how programs behave when you're in program mode. You can disable the wheels in the Control Setup.

Quick fix for this problem with either pitch or mod wheel: You get all these great MIDI features and than this,- horrible!īest thing to do is contact Kurz support. I don´t understand a company is using such cheap components in such a, in most cases really advanced, keyboard instrument. The pitch bend mechanism and electronic circuitry is so important for a synth´s tuning. Unbelievable,- none of my other keyboards, all from the past, introduces such crappy behaviour. My PC361 is a studio instrument, never transported,- and it´s tuning wise sensitive on shocks and vibration caused by playing while it sits on the keyboard stand. The Alpha/Taiwan pots are crap and the other component I suspect is the trimmer-pot for pitch-bend wheel center position. When you´re one of these players using +/- 2 semitones PB-range only, you probably don´t recognize the issue early. The larger the PB range is, the earlier the pot fails ! With the PC3, it really depends on if you´re a synth player doing much pitch-bending and which PB range you prefer. Never ever had this w/ any other keyboard I buyed within 4 decades. When you replace PW or MOD pots w/ original components, you´ll have to do it every 1 1/2 years.

Have you ever experienced this behavior? Does it require a hardware replacement or is there a software fix? BTW, I have installed the newest OS in it, and didn't change anything.

Again, only changing the program ends the odd modulation behavior, only temporarily. And that's when I noticed that the modulation wheel, when my PC3 is hooked, never goes below +/- 30% and is always moving a bit up and down.

As you know Reason depicts graphically a representation of the pitch and modulation wheels of the controller keyboard. And then, when using Reason, I think I saw why. Over Midi, Omnisphere and other softsynths had the unwanted modulation applied in the same way as with the Kurzweil's own synth engine. i thought this was a bad LFO, but then I tested it with MIDI. The only way to stop that unwanted modulation is to change program. It also happens after busy passages that don't involve sustained notes - say, after 15, 20 seconds. Alternatively, the same thing happens when I touch the modulation wheel to any degree, it just fires a heck of vibrato, that doesn't stop even when the wheel returns to "zero" position. On local mode, I started noticing that a considerable amount of unwanted modulation (vibrato, most times, but really, it seems to be any modulation source assigned to the Mod Wheel) is being applied to the sound after a key is depressed and sustained for more than around 10 seconds.
